Self-Portrait as St. Sebastian (1914-15) by Egon Schiele

Egon Schiele, an Austrian painter known for his raw and emotional art, created a poster for his exhibition of paintings that drew on the tradition of presenting St. Sebastian as a symbol for the suffering artist. In this depiction, Schiele presents himself as the martyr through the pose of St. Sebastian with arrows piercing his side and chest.

In Self-Portrait with Physalis (1912), Schiele showcases his mature style despite being only 22 years old when he painted it. This enigmatic work portrays him standing naked with one hand covering his genitals while holding a cape or cloth in the other; behind him is a plant growing from what appears to be cinders or snow.

With this particular artwork creation, Egon Schiele was able to explore himself through utilizing creative symbolism whilst showcasing interesting depictions which would spark interest from many people alike into exploring themselves further into deeper levels they could yet not understand about themselves until it is uncovered through deep realization regardless of their own artistic career pursuits but more towards personal discovery itself.
