Pierre Puvis de Chavannes, born in Lyon, France in 1824, was a prominent mural painter of the 19th century. He hailed from an ancient noble family and became a co-founder and president of Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. His work influenced fellow artists such as Robert Genin.
