Giorgio De Chirico was an Italian painter born on 10 July 1888 in Volos, Greece. De Chirico took an interest in art and Greek mythology as a child and received full support from his parents. He studied at the Higher School of Fine Arts in Athens for two years before moving to Munich, where he enrolled at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts.
De Chirico developed his style and settled on a subject matter influenced by his travels and European cities. He served in the Italian army with his brother during the First World War and continued to paint while in service. 1919 marked the beginning of the later part of the artist’s seventy years career, which saw him experiment with several mediums. Giorgio De Chirico died on 20 November 1978 in Rome, Italy.
