Georges Seurat was a French painter born in Paris in 1859 to a wealthy family. He had older siblings, Émile Augustin and Marie-Berthe. Seurat studied at the École des Beaux-Arts under Henri Lehmann, a disciple of Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres.
Seurat’s technique was inspired by research in optical and color theory. He is considered the founder of Neo-Impressionism, and his paintings are known for their shimmering pointillist style.
