Andy Warhol – Artwork & Bio of the American Painter

Andy Warhol was an American painter born on 6 August 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Andy suffered from a disease that kept him at home as a child. To pass the time, he played with paper cutouts and read comics. Warhol also took art classes at Carnegie Institute under Joseph Fitzpatrick. In 1945, Warhol enrolled at the Carnegie Institute of Technology.

In 1949, Warhol graduated with a degree in graphic design and moved to New York City to pursue a professional art career. He started by making illustrations, and the 1949 Glamour Magazine edition featured his first work. Warhol’s artworks started featuring more feminine tones and subjects after his mother moved in with him in 1952.

Warhol held a solo exhibition at the Bodley Gallery in 1956, where he presented sketchbook portraits of young men. He was renowned for representing his then-unconventional sexuality in his works. In 1960, Warhol turned to the Pop Art movement, focusing his works on everyday items, especially commercial products.

Warhol also experimented with film production, performance art, sculpting, publishing, and television shows between the 1960s and 1980s, achieving considerable acclaim in every aspect. He died on 22 February 1987 at New York Hospital in Manhattan after suffering complications during surgery.
